Summer 2008

  • After a drug courier dies crossing the border and others go to collect the cargo, the DEA effects arrests of those involved, and seizes the drugs.
  • As the supply of methamphetamine on the street dwindles, a rumor sweeps the drug community that someone is poisoning the Montes de Oca drug gang's remaining meth supply. A war seems imminent, but who will be involved and where the bodies will drop is uncertain.

Autumn 2008

  • The Montes De Oca crime family goes to war with its suppliers, a Mexican drug cartel operating behind a corporate front, Trans-Mexico shipping. Murders and shootings begin to spread to Tucson as the violence in Mexico escalates rapidly. A top lieutenant in the cartel is arrested by the DEA and Border Patrol after crossing the border.
  • A body found in the desert is identified as that of border crosser Trina Nunez. Before her death, she was tortured. Gilberto Flores, a notorious felon, was arrested in connection with the investigation of her death and the operation of a meth lab in Graham County. Luis Echeverria, a West Side Brown Pride gangster from Phoenix was arrested in connection with Flores' activities, but turned state's evidence to obtain a lighter sentence. Flores would eventually plead to avoid the death penalty. A small-time meth dealer gave up the location of Flores and received probation.

Winter 2008-2009

  • Barack Obama is elected President of the United States.
  • A murder-for-hire is solved by two TPD detectives. The triggerman and the fixer that arranged the murder are arrested and successfully prosecuted, though a second gunman remains at large.
  • As the drug war escalates, a new player enters the scene, the California branch of the Old (or Original) Mexican Mafia, abbreviated OMM. This attracts the attention of the FBI.

Spring 2009

  • The War of Cross and Crimson erupts in the Vampire community, when Lancea Sanctum elders attempt to overthrow the current Vampire power structure. With the assistance of several coteries and the bribery of several covenants, as well as due to the infighting of the elders, Prince Allison Arrington survives the coup attempt.
  • The war between the OMM and the MDO organization continues, with most, but not all, murders occurring in Mexico. The FBI successfully shuts down the OMM's transportation pipeline between the California gangs and Southern Arizona, forcing the superior firepower of the OMM to compete on a more even level with the MDO. The Montes de Ocas murder virtually everyone involved in the Trans-Mexico Shipping cartel, its remaining members either becoming underlings of the family or escaping to the protection of the "Chapo branch" of the Sinaloa cartel. This further escalates the bloodshed.
  • Several bodies are discovered in what the media is calling a "compound" belonging to a senior member of the Intentionality Meditation movement. Two were killed by gunshot wounds. Several others died much earlier, but their bodies were shot postmortem. Security systems were disabled in a very professional way. Due to a lack of physical evidence and motive to attack the sect, TPD is not able to close the case. Intentionality Meditation, seriously damaged by the attack, withdraws to its Fourth Avenue storefront for a few months, then disbands quietly after that.

Summer 2009

  • An Ordo Dracul scholar, Snagellus Leon, who was incarcerated by the Prince during the War of Cross and Crimson slips his captors and goes to the University of Arizona. The covenant sends a coterie to investigate and retrieve him. They find that he's being hunted by Vampires from Phoenix for secretly observing Circle of the Crone and Lancea Sanctum rituals. During the final confrontation, a mysterious being celestial fire appears, creates a transmutation circle and appoints the coterie to guard it.
  • Claudia decides to have the coterie guard the circle. The supernatural energy expelled by its creation attracts two other supernatural: a cell of hunters led by Steve Byung and a cabal of mages called Arete Associates. The coterie manages to use diplomacy to steer both groups away, except for one exceptionally curious mage: Michael Wanamaker. As dawn approached, a stranger called Ishmael the Walker arrives with a cadaver and the group witnesses a mysterious ritual ending the reanimation of the body. Tracking of Ishmael ends unsuccessfully after a few months.
  • On the night of May 20th - 21st, a group of vampires and mortals explore the Santa Rita hotel. They encounter several different ghosts, including some incredibly powerful ones. They also meet a strange human cultist, apparently behind the purchase and tearing down of the Santa Rita. They defeat him easily in a battle at the rooftop and drop him off at an emergency room. Content to have survived their ghostly encounters they choose not to investigate further.
  • Late at night or early morning June 6th or 7th there is a report of a fire at the train station. Finding little evidence other than a few cadavers and some scorch marks, not investigation is mounted and the report is filed away as a freak accident or gas leak. A student also files a report of seeing a zombie near the UMC morgue. Tests of his breath a urine reveal he was drunk at the time, casting doubt on his claims.
  • On the night of June 13th-14th TIAP security reports several strange events witnessed at the Delta terminal and by individuals on the tarmac near one of the gates and looking through the windows on an arriving flight. This included reports of people seeming to appear out of thin air and moving too fast for the eye to see. Rumors from guards working in the video control stations say that some of footage even included people with blurred features while everything around them showed up crystal clear. Fanning these rumors was an alleged copy of the footage showing up on the Internet, distributed by a group calling itself Network 0. Surprisingly, another incident occurred at Desert Diamond Casino. Reports by several witnesses involved a large man ripping slot machines in half and killing a police officer with his bare hands. Another Network 0 video showed up on the Internet of the alleged security footage from that incident, also showing the man's features blurred while everything else around him was in focus. When custodial crews show up at the Bio Sphere 2 on Sunday morning they find that a large section of the environment has been burned away, including a pathway leading from the lake towards an exit. Investigations turn up no clues, and all security camera footage was somehow erased.
  • Wasting no time, Allison orders the vampires responsible for the Masquerade breaches over the weekend be brought to justice on the night of June 15th. They sought Sanctuary with Lucas DiCarlo and Lancea Sanctum at San Xavier mission. DiCarlo, in a shrewd move of double treachery, comes to Elysium with Amersis to taunt the Prince with this information. Amersis is taken into custody, but DiCarlo uses Obfuscate to slip his captors, leaving Amersis behind. Later, when a coterie arrives looking for the Masquerade violators, he chooses to turn the other way while they go in to retrieve him. While a large man matching the description from the casino and a hispanic woman matching some descriptions from the airport are captured, the third is taken by strange creatures. With dawn approaching, the investigators have just enough to gather a few leads before returning to their havens.
  • The drug war between the MDO and OMM concludes, with the Montes de Oca family retaining control over the Southern Arizona drug trade and transshipment market, including an even bigger piece of the violent Phoenix market. During the escalation, one of the Montes de Oca's major assassins is arrested after an assault on a former federal agent. As the war winds down, business gets back to usual, at least in the states. In Mexico, the conflict rages on.
  • The Gomez crime family suffers a tragic loss when its beloved patriarch, Rafael Gomez, dies of cancer. He is laid to rest at the family plot outside the city. Although it has struggled internally, the two factions of the family resolve their differences when Eduardo Garcia decides he cannot win the fight to bring the family into the drug trade.
  • Tucson is shocked in late summer by the brutal murder of three women in one week. Investigative reporter Chahm Cavanaugh makes the connection with 1910 serial killer Martin Bowen and authorities believe the killings to be the work of a copycat. However, no suspects are charged and the case remains unsolved, going cold after a few weeks. Unbeknownst to authorities, the Agua Fria Support Group krewe of Sin-Eaters determined that the murders were the work of a possessing spirit, which they managed to banish, destroying its anchor in the mortal world.
