Michael Saavedra

Michael Saavedra is a scoundrel and criminal, and a captain in the Gomez family organization. He is handsome and savvy but not thoughtful, and his schemes tend to explode spectacularly. He has been in and out of jails in the U.S. and Mexico for most of his life, though serious charges rarely stick to him (often, he has information to trade, though never against the family.) His son, Raymundo Saavedra is a day-to-day operative for the family, and deeply resents him.

Saavedra was born in Nogales, barely on the United States side. He drifted from job to job within the family but never established a realm of expertise. This broad background serves him well in his various con games.

He was recently kidnapped in Sonora, Mexico, while bringing across information related to recent events. The player characters rescued him and brought him across on forged paperwork. As it turned out, he had been involved in an elaborate confidence scheme in Mexico and had been double-crossed by his partner, "Mara Curiel" (a likely alias) who stole the money. This prevented him from paying off the Guatemalan loan shark, Cerda Mondello, who had provided the seed money, and who now demanded massive payments that would have bankrupted the family. The player characters robbed "Curiel" and paid off Mondello with her share of the loot.

Saavedra was told to stay away from la frontera by the family, but ended up (somehow) in a Sonoran prison.
