Rivera is a consumnate professional in a nasty, hated profession. He hires the best muscle. He obtains the most secure safehouses. And he arranges for his targets to be kidnapped at the most vulnerable moments. He harms them just enough to obtain compliance. He torments the target family or organization just enough to obtain money. He returns the target as unharmed as it is possible to have. He pays several minor Mexican crimebosses for protection - and they appreciate the immunity he grants to him and their families from his horrible profession.

The Gomez family has been a go-between with Rivera before. They know he won't screw up a deal.

He currently operates in Northern Mexico. The drug war makes it a good time to be a professional kidnapper.
