Grace

"Grace" is not really her name. She doesn't have a name - she traded that away long ago. Captured by The Longest Shadow and subjected to horrendous tortures that she dares not forget, Grace traded far too much for the power needed to fight against the terrible Gentry. Hardly human, only minimally a Fairest Changeling, she is a seemingly invulnerable agent of revenge and humiliation against The Longest Shadow whose powers and Contracts have torn away her memories, pieces of her soul, her heart, three different destinies and perhaps, it is rumored, her ability to die. She cannot cut her hair until she is married.

She selected Francisco Mendez in the late 1920s to be her agent in ferrying The Longest Shadow's Changelings back across the Wire into the mortal world. Trading on silver and gold, Mendez was made wealthy and renowned by his use of Hedge passages across the Arizona-Mexico border. But eventually he would pass away, and his children were unsuitable for many reasons - Maritza Maldonado a drug addict and Frankie Mendez a psycho. The worst was the eldest son, Rinaldo Mendez who fell in love with Grace, a love she cannot return since her heart is in a jar somewhere far away.

Nevertheless her awful price has let dozens of Changelings over dozens of years escape the clutches of the horrendous Longest Shadow. Many whisper of the unearthly beauty rumored to lay beneath the mirrored mask, of the foot after foot of silken hair that unspools when she un-pins it. Many are grateful to her, but would rather not see her around. It never bodes well.
